Hon Akwasi Darko Boateng, Member of Parliament (MP) for Bosome Freho Constituency in the Ashanti Region and a member of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), has stated that Parliament will continue to consult seasoned lawmakers such as Majority Leader Mr Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu and Deputy Speaker Joseph Osei-Owusu even after they have left the house.

“With the senior MPs like O.B Amoah, Joe Ghartey, Kyei Mensah Bonsu among others who have bowed out of Parliament, I believe we could still consult them in our difficult times”, Mr. Akwasi Darko Boateng told the media in an interview.

“I’m sure we’ll consult them even if they are out of parliament especially when we have any difficulty in our discussion. And I’m also certain they will be ready to come and help”, he added.

Mr. Akwasi Darko Boateng’s offer comes only days after some prominent members of Parliament on the NPP ticket resigned after failing to file a nomination to return to the parliament.

After the NPP announced the opening of the nomination form for prospective members of Parliament, Majority Leader Hon Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu resigned after failing to apply for candidacy.

Others who have left Parliament include Deputy Speaker in Parliament and MP for Bekwai, Joseph Osei, Mr KT Hammond, Hon Samuel Atta Kyea MP for Abuakwa South, Kennedy Ohehe Agyapong MP for Assin Central and NPP Presidential candidate aspirant, Hon Francisa Oteng, Hon Benito Owusu Bio MP for Atwima Nwabiagya North, among others.

Similarly, roughly 17 existing minority members (NDC) like as Alhaji ABA Fuseini, Dr Kwabena Donkor, and Dr Augustine Tawiah lost their primaries to return to Parliament in 2025.

However, Hon Akwasi Darko Boateng, speaking to Angel News, claimed that the absence of these experienced MPs will have an impact on the actions of parliament in the coming years.

“If all these experienced individuals leave the house, it will of course have a great impact on the activities of the house especially people like our leader (Kyei Mensah Bonsu)”, he said, describing the parliament as a school where students (MPs) graduate from one stage to another while they gradually gain experience.
